Who am I and what is this blog about?

Who am I?

My name is Emil and I work in an international IT giant. I have done lots of interesting things at work and outside of it and I've never happened to share those. I've collected quite some knowledge base and skillset as well but haven't been able to share it with people.

I am interested in all things IT, love building useful products and my laptop is my best friend. I spend majority of my time learning something new mostly via reading stuff or talking to really smart people. I believe in people's abilities and truly believe you can become whoever you aspire to become.

My approach is trying something new as much as possible and seeing what 'sticks'. This way I've managed to learn a ton of different things: HTML, PHP, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, Python, VSCode, Notion – and I still continue learning every day.

What is this?

I am planning to become a Product Manager and a founder of something incredibly exciting. But there's a catch: I am a no developer, I've done some PHP, HTML, Python and this is honestly my first time pushing something to github via Atom VSCode (started off with Atom then switched, and I still don't quite frankly understand how Github works).

What am I trying to say? I want to master the skills of a strong Product Manager . I can frankly say becoming a PM is not the ultimate goal (I don't plan to stop there). What I'm looking to achieve is having all relevant PM skills. At the moment I have the same experience as you might have – I have done online marketing, business development, some pet projects while working in a big international IT giant.

Do you want to become a PM yourself? Or is owning your own business an interesting topic? Let's embark on this journey together!

Why [Product] Martian?

Have you seen 'The Martian' movie?

Have you seen The Martian?
Tell me it's not epic – we'll have to part ways

Frankly, I am not quite sure the word explains the meaning I am trying to convey, but I am quite a 'Martian' in Product Management as well as ton of other things. There's an amazing quote by Mark Watney (Matt Damon):

“You just begin. You do the math. You solve one problem... and you solve the next one... and then the next. And If you solve enough problems, you get to come home. All right, questions?”

That's exactly my approach to doing things both with Product Management and with all the rest – I will take one step at a time and see how it goes. This means I will have to learn a lot of new things on the go, but this doesn't make it any less interesting.

What is this blog for?

As I mentioned earlier I'm going to learn a lot of new stuff, I need a place I could store it and, which is more important, share it with like-minded people. This is the right place.

I am going to share everything I happen to learn or find interesting – be it psychology, product management, thoughts about anything from books to universe – or even simple life discoveries. This is going to be quite a rollercoaster, so buckle up. You might be receiving information in different mediums (text or video), let's see which one sticks.

What am I trying to achieve?

My main goal is to master Product Management, meanwhile mastering 3 additional skills via this blog (and vlog):

  • storytelling
  • writing (blogging)
  • video & editing (vlogging)
